Wonton Soup
A quick and comforting soup inspired by Mandu-Guk using frozen dumplings.
Ingredients
- a drizzlesesame oil
- 3scallions, thinly sliced
- 2garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 2 cupschicken or vegetable broth
- a splashsoy sauce
- a pinchsalt
- a fistfulthinly shredded cabbage or sliced carrots (optional)
- 5frozen dumplings (preferably pork-based)
- 1egg
- cracked pepper, chili oil, toasted sesame seeds, and/or sliced scallion, for garnish
Instructions
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add sesame oil, scallions, and garlic. Sauté until they sweat—you’re not looking for color, just to soften.
Add broth, soy sauce, and salt. If desired, add vegetables like thinly shredded cabbage or sliced carrots.
Once the broth comes to a boil, add frozen dumplings. Let simmer for 3–4 minutes.
While the dumplings are cooking, scramble the egg in a small bowl. Slowly drizzle the egg into the simmering broth to create fluffy ribbons.
Finish with cracked pepper, chili oil, toasted sesame seeds, and/or sliced scallion as desired.
